A rainy day

After running a couple errands we got home just in time to beat the rain. Having a garage is a great change these past few months. No more unloading kids and groceries while getting drenched.

On this particukar afternoon we stayed outside to watch the storm  and then the girls had a blast singing, running and dancing in the rain.

Quiet. It happens a lot more these days. Not for long spurts of course, I do have 2 little girls, but when they are getting along and doing their “own thing” it can be really peaceful. Puzzles make it happen. That, or playing in their room together – or separately, while together.

Sarah jut told me she needs a new puzzle because she knows how to do all the ones we have. I’m thinking a world or USA map. Challenge and educate her at the same time.

Naps on the floor and cornbread snacking on the floor. Days where we just stay home, with minimal errands and activities, are usually my favorite. At least when it’s me and the girls. I like to save outings for when Stephen can be part of them. Like Wild Honey frozen yogurt. Stephen is always up for an ice cream date with the girls :)

Cousin time. These girls are a hoot when they get together. Addison was over one morning and the girls were running to and from Sarah and hugging her. So much giggling.

I am taking it back to July for this goody. Spaghetti in all it’s delicious and messy fun.

I have some rather flip-floppy kids when it comes to what foods they like. Sarah looooves broccoli, but doesn’t like pizza. Or at least homemade pizza, which is what we do most the time. I have no idea where she got her taste buds, because while I do enjoy some broccoli, not liking pizza?! Craziness. Then again, good for her. Haha. It’s like when you have a friend that doesn’t like chocolate. I can’t quite understand the concept of my mouth not wanting chocolate, but if my flavor-buds were on board that would be a helpful preference. Sadly my brain is all about some brownies. Just brownies. I dream about them sometimes. Actually, I think we may have some this week. Boxed brownies, if you’re curious. I’ve tried from scratch and they weren’t worth the effort. Either hard or dry or watery. I’ve tried too many to count. The recipe makers from those box-filling factories know what they’re doing!

Okay. I need to go drink some tea now and stop thinking about what night this week we are having dessert.

Post-VBS falling asleep on the couch. She was telling me all about the three men that went in a fire and an angel kept them safe when suddenly she got quieter until she passed out next to me. I actually cuddled up next to her and watched some NCIS (Netflix, you are brilliant but cruel for my time management), before putting her into bed and then going to sleep myself. It was a good cuddly evening.

Well, we got ourselves a new bed! Seems like a basic no-biggie kind of thing, but for my penny pinching brain it was a big deal. Our bodies more so made the decision for us. Something clicks once you turn 30, and our bodies were telling us no bueno on our trusty ol’ mattress. After both of us having a morning routine that involved extra strength tylenol for our backs, we bit the bullet and got ourselves a fresh from the factory bed. We also upgraded while we were at it – we went from a queen to a king and oh my word! You guys – I have never slept so great. I can’t even count how many times our kids, BOTH OF THEM, have come in our room mid-night and got into our bed without waking me. That was unheard of before. That in itself made it worth every penny (and let’s be real, mattresses aren’t cheap, so it was quite a few pennies).

The girls had a blast watching us take down our old bed, relocate it to the guest room and then put the new one together. Bed-In-A-Box, I couldn’t recommend them more. Thank you again, Miriah and Nicole, for telling us over and over (and over) how awesome they are, you were so right!

A Quick Trip

Last weekend Stephen and I took a fun trip to Orlando with our friends Brandon and Nicole.

We have talked about going somewhere together since our last adventure to Houston in March of 2014, for our friend JD’s wedding. We randomly decided in July that if we did go somewhere it should be to Orlando to visit what I’m just going to call the amazing World of Harry Potter. Well, that is just what we did.

Stephen turns 30 in a few days, so we used his birthday as a reason for the trip. Not that we really need a reason, but it felt more justified this way for my budgeting brain.

We left on Thursday and got back Sunday afternoon.

Visiting Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade were just awesome. It made me wanna re-read the books and watch all the movies.

We stayed at a Universal hotel, so we took the shuttle to the parks each day, and also got 1-hour early admittance. The line wait was less than 25 minutes the whole time, except the Hogwarts castle ride. It seemed like everyone was in the HP areas so riding The Mummy and Jurassic Park rides was so quick. A definite nice break from the humidity and heat.

In the afternoon we grabbed the shuttle back to the hotel for a nap then got up for dinner and back to the park at night. It was so relaxing. In the evenings we would play cards down in a quieter spot in the hotel, in true McKenzie-Ringl spirit.

Thanks again to my parents for sending me pictures of the girls during their stay at Papaw and Nanas house. They had a blast swimming, going to the train store and eating loads of chocolate ice cream with marshmallows for 3 days :)

Here are a few photos of our adventures.

It was a wonderful trip and I’m already looking forward to our next one :)
