It was a rainy day. The drive was wet and my excitement immeasurable. The night before I slept on Melissa’s couch. Family was in town and my Papaw and Grandma were staying in my, soon to be, old room.
I remember waiting to walk out. When they opened the doors I immediately saw him standing at the end of the aisle. He had his hands folded. His smile grew the closer I got to him. Time paused. My hearing went quiet. We were surrounded by family and friends. We went into that room as best friends, and left as husband and wife.
Still, 6 years later, he is not only my husband, but my very best friend. I pray, and have no doubt, that fact will remain true for the rest of our lives. In these first 6 years I haven’t been too surprised to see that it takes a lot of hard work, honesty, and a good share of tears and disagreements. We have both changed a lot, but while growing together.
“Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.” Proverbs 23:12
I have no doubt that without our faith in the Lord our relationship would be nothing compared to what it is. He is our stronghold and our foundation. We both have lots of room for improvement, or at least I do, and knowing and facing that fact is a good way to keep my mind, mouth and actions in check.
– 6 Years –
On our anniversary this year we were able to spend the afternoon and evening by ourselves. It was on a Sunday, so after church we dropped the girls at my parents and strolled about on our own.
Got some coffee and strolled the bookstore
“”For the word of the Lord is right and true; He is faithful in all he does.” Psalm 33:4
That evening we ate my favorite, lots and LOTS of guacamole
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.” Psalm 34:8
[Couldn’t resist placing this one with our delicious dinner photo]
My mom and dad said they’d keep the girls for the night, so it was fun to get to enjoy an unexpected dinner out. Stephen knows me all too well and took me to my favorite mexican place. When at dinner I remembered that we went to this same place to celebrate the year before. Elanor was only a month old and some friends watched the girls while we grabbed dinner at a place nearby (thank you Davis fam!) That was the time we discovered Elanor wouldn’t take a bottle. Haha. Silly child.
It has been a whirlwind of events over these past 6 years of marriage, and I am thankful, and also not thankful enough, for my life. It seems like each new year I learn to treasure life more and more. To not take advantage of the things that seem simple and menial.
“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in you sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
“Be joyful always, pray continually;
give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thess 5:16-18
6 years down, and a lifetime to go!
