I was visiting a website I frequent about baby-related topics and was surprised when I read an article about popular names. I always knew baby names could be ‘trendy’. You learn that in grade school when you have 4 kids with the same name in your class. However, I never knew how the cycle worked. It has become very apparent that society and the media play a huge role in people naming their children. It seems like no matter how hard parent’s would try to be creative or unique, you just couldn’t predict whether 2,000 other sets of parents were going to do the same thing. Until now.
The internet makes a lot of things easier in life. We can now add one more thing to that list: Avoiding a trendy name for your child. Unless you don’t mind a trendy name. Heck, with over 4 million babies being born just last year, you are bound to have a few name-sharing kids in your school. My feelings are pretty simple, name your child what you want to name him/her. You are going to be the one saying that name for the next 50+ years, so make it one you like to hear when you whisper, coo, mumble, speak, and yell (yes, I have already accepted that Sarah will not be innocent forever. Kids lie, and I’m a girl, so I know we especially aren’t easy to deal with).
So if you are at all curious about approaching trendy-names, I’ve got the list here for you.
Top Baby Names for 2011:
It’s funny how many of these names I recognize from recent movies and tv shows/characters. I can see why a lot of those are so popular, that’s a really good list of some solid names.
If you are in the market for picking out a name for your child, have fun and good luck!
