Dresser Up-Do

For some reason when I wrote “up-do” in the title I pictured a beauty salon with women sitting in those chairs with the hair dryers over their heads while they read magazines. Weird.

I have a project I’m working on and I’ve completed the first step, but due to rain I can’t move on to step two just yet.

I’m taking this dresser we have had in the nursery closet and giving it a much needed update. It started as a not quite honey color, and it needs that something special.

The dresser fits perfectly inside the closet, so I will be putting it back in there for baby-item storage, and since that room is now going to be the nursery I want it to fit in. We are using white furniture, but because this piece won’t be as out in the open I’m wondering if I can get away with adding some color. I was leaning heavily towards painting it grey, but I’m just not positive. I’m sure it would look great stained, but I’m trying to through this project without buying any new materials. We have white primer, grey paint, yellow paint, and an abundance of paint samples.

I’ve sanded the dresser down, so now I just need to decide how I’m going to beautify it.

Here is what we’ve got:

I guess this is a “before” post without the completed after. What to do, what to do…

7 Thoughts on “Dresser Up-Do

  1. What about painting it white and using the paint samples to paint some designs (swirls, stripes, big dots, flowers, etc.) on the front of the drawers? Or paint the handles different colors? Just a couple thoughts. I love all the work your doing to improve your place – keep up the great work!

  2. I was going to say the same thing Kim said. White and then spruce it up with some designs :) I bet Miriah could help on that front if needed!!!
I know you don’t want to buy new materials – but new knobs always help spruce something up and Hob Lob almost always has their knobs 50% off and they have some great ones (totally inexpensive).
Can’t wait to see the finished product!!!

  3. told ya not to paint it gray! everyone agrees :) I don’t care what you do, I’m just against gray. It’d look drab due to the pretty white furniture. Go with some color if you want, just not gray.

  4. I like the white with the drawers painted a different color and some cutsie handles. :) Not grey and no stain! Have some fun with this piece I can’t wait to see the “after.”

  5. i think you should have a mural of uncle matt painted on the front, with the drawers as my muslces, so when you pull them out, im flexxing…

  6. Looks like white is in the lead :) Thank you for all your help, friends! Can’t wait to finish it and show you how it turns out!!
